Millicom’s online business team is taking new products and services to millions of new customers and to different markets that fall outside our mobile telecommunications footprint. We are more convinced than ever about the potential for online services in Africa to grow strongly and leapfrog traditional retail.

The installation of submarine fibre optic cables in 2009 and 2010 ended Madagascar's dependency on satellites for international connectivity. Since then, bandwidth costs have fallen and levels of internet access has increased.

Wireless broadband access networks are being rolled out, enabling converged voice, data and entertainment services while the number of fixed lines has also multiplied.

Penetration rates in all market sectors are still below African averages, promising excellent growth potential.
