Millicom’s online business team is taking new products and services to millions of new customers and to different markets that fall outside our mobile telecommunications footprint. We are more convinced than ever about the potential for online services in Africa to grow strongly and leapfrog traditional retail.

Our first online venture in Malawi, in 2014, comes as economic recovery takes hold following a period of significant upheaval during 2011/2012 with projected GDP growth for 2014 at 5.7 per cent.

Internet and mobile penetration is low as is mobile phone penetration - 32 per cent compared to Africa-wide average of 76 per cent.
