Regional Market Overview
Our five Tigo operations account for almost 14 percent of Millicom’s annual revenue, count more than 25 million mobile customers, and operate on our core strategy around accelerating and growing mobile data. In 2016, Africa reported revenue growth of 10 to 12 per cent in most sectors. Our biggest contributor, Tanzania, now has a 4G network in every region of the country and is the first operator to do so, giving its 11.7 million customers greater speed and online access. Our B2B service experienced significant growth with the signing of several prestigious client contracts and the expansion of channel capacity in account management and sales agents. This delivered a 40 per cent growth year on year. In 2016, markets also continued to support social and financial inclusion through women empowerment initiatives designed to increase access to MFS and mobile internet. Early 2016 also marked the disposal of our Democratic Republic of Congo market, leaving our Tanzania, Chad, Ghana, Rwanda and Senegal markets to focus on delivering connectivity and access.
