We build digital highways to be a change agent in the social, professional, and economic development of our communities.

We want the digitalization opportunities to be available and to unleash their positive impact on our communities and beyond.

We do this by focusing on three areas:

  • Digital ownership
  • Digital appropriation: education encouraging ICT use and implementation.
  • Online protection: safe and creative use of the internet and technology.

Since 2016 we actively engaged in actions for the protection of children's rights through proactive mediation strategies. Our approach is based on protection, preparation, deference, and proactivity in digital environments for online participation, including the grasp of those opportunities these environments offer which need a careful and informed approach.

Through our programs we also aim at building skills for employment in the digital economy, aimed at key demographic sectors, such as women, children, and teachers.

Conéctate Segur@

Being online is an essential part in children’s and adolescents´ development, as it is key for accessing and potentiating their education as well as exercising their rights in society. We support the understanding of these benefits providing trainings and education on the responsible and productive use of the internet, promoting the formation of responsible digital citizens.

Conectadas

We work to close the digital gender gap through the training of women on the use of connectivity for their personal development, access to education, and using digital tools for entrepreneurship. Launched in 2017, our Conectadas program provides digital literacy and entrepreneurship training to women and adolescent girls in Latin America, creating a springboard for social and economic opportunity.

In April 2022 we launched the Conectadas digital platform with 4 courses:

  • Social Media
  • Social Media for my Business
  • Personal Finance
  • Finance for my Business

Our operations promote the platform locally through various implementing partners, since its launch in April 2022, we have over 30.000 subscribers on the platform to date.*

In addition to the content of the platform, we bring digital education to women through workshops, meetings, and webinars on financial inclusion, and entrepreneurship, among others.
In Paraguay and El Salvador, a special edition of this program is developed with women owners or managers of businesses that are part of the Tigo value chain.

Maestr@s Conectad@s

In June 2022 we launched the Maestr@s Conectad@s digital platform with 20 free courses that provide educators with tools to transform and innovate education.

This program consists of online training to help teachers, school administrators, and others develop and facilitate technology-enabled modules so that students in our markets have access to the same educational opportunities as children in other parts of the world.

The interactive modules were delivered through videos, podcasts, and other digital media.

With the digital platform, educators who wish to acquire new skills have easy and immediate access to the Maestr@s Conectad@s toolkit.

This online platform offers a catalog of 20 free courses developed in collaboration with AHYU, an international organization focused on educational content.

Course topics include digital tools, PowerPoint, Canva, Zoom, educational innovation, storytelling, gamification, use of social networks, digital tools for the classroom, and neuroeducation.

Connectivity and Fútbol Come Together with Real Madrid Partnership

Fútbol is life for many Latin American children and, in Millicom, we seized the opportunity to partner with Fundación real Madrid and leverage children’s love of fútbol to promote online safety and digital literacy.

In September 2021, Millicom and Fundación Real Madrid joined forces to support 69 social sports projects in our nine Latin American markets and the United States.

Through these joint programs, more than 11,200 boys, girls, and family members served by the Fundación Kids will be trained on the responsible and productive use of the internet over the 5-year duration of the partnership. They will learn how to use digital tools and prevent cyberbullying, and gain access to activities designed to empower women and young people to succeed in the digital economy.

In 2022 we have reached over 6,000 children and adolescents with our flagship programs, since the implementation of this alliance in our 9 operations.

In Nicaragua, Bolivia, and Paraguay we promote training spaces linked to programming and robotics that has benefited more than 2,000 children and adolescents this year, providing them with tools to create, learn and innovate through the internet.

In Paraguay, we also have a Tigo Telecentre, where the students of the social sports schools have free access to infrastructure and internet. Tigo Telecentres are containers adapted to the shape of a classroom and are installed mainly in public schools and colleges in Paraguay.

EducaTigo

Only about 40% of Bolivian households have internet access, preventing many Bolivian students, teachers and families from acquiring the skills to participate in digital and connected society.

In 2021 we launched EducaTigo, the country’s first TV channel broadcasting full-time educational content. EducaTigo airs curated content focused on digital skills building, responsible internet use, cybersecurity, and other digital education topics. The channel airs 24 hours a day on the Tigo Home cable network.
